NYFW SS18 Street Style: Feminist T-Shirt & Suede Thigh Highs
Fashion week is all about making a statement... in more ways than one. Having a career in the public eye means that all eyes are on you constantly, and this can be a good or a bad thing. I always try and see it as something influential and positive if done right. With everything going on in the world lately it's hard to not feel discouraged, sad, and disappointed. So when I started putting my fashion week outfits together this one I knew I had to wear. Yes, I'm a feminist.
To me feminism simply means equality. I know the term has recently become diluted with alternative meanings and definitions that negatively take away from its original purpose. And no, I don't stomp around the street and hate every man that walks by. I love men. But only those that respect women as their equal, just like I respect any person who doesn't see themselves as superior because of their social status, skin color, ethnicity etc.
Gender equality is crucial for progression. So being a feminist isn't just a "cool trend" it's necessary as it raises a push for it. If my outfit can make a statement I want it to be a strong one, something I genuinely believe in.
